Community

The Malvern Hills AONB is not an area of wild or unoccupied countryside. Towns, villages and individual dwellings are key features in the fabric of the landscape and the inhabitants of these settlements play a vital role in caring for, and helping to manage the area.

Local people in the parish of Colwall have developed, researched and written a Village Design Statement. The Statement highlights the qualities of the settlement and aims to ensure that future development in the village contributes to the protection and improvement of its special character. The document was produced in consultation with a variety of bodies and is a practical tool which can be used by statutory bodies, planners and developers, local community groups and householders and businesses. The Colwall Design Statement has been endorsed by Herefordshire Council for material consideration when dealing with planning matters.
